Rome's glory, in it's zenith shone, With Flag invincible, unfurled j Augustus' sceptre ruled alone O'er all th' united world ! And day had set on Jndah's pride, On David's throne, and Sharon's flower ; In Judah's halls, the stranger sat, ■ Arid waived his plume on wall and tower. In "Raman's vales— by llamah's streams, JEaoh flock it's lonely vigil kept ; And Earth— beneath her canopy— In dull, portentous silence' slept ! Shepherds arise,! — a Heavenly power, At this—the 'witching hour of night, — Comes down with majesty of mem, Clothed in ambient robes of light !
