HEAVY THUNDERSTORM IN DUNEDIN.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, Dec. .8. Shortly after 2 o'clock this afternoon a heavy thunderstorm burst over the city, It came up suddenly from the south-west after an intensely hot morning, and there was a torrential downpour for twenty minutes, followed by two or three hours of lighter rain, which should do a vast amount of good to the parched country. At Waipori, where the city hydro-eleotricjiMer station is situated, there (IBTsomething in the nature of a which did considerable damage to the roads, etc. Persistent lightning interfered seriously with the electric system. The supply of the current to the city was interrupted on live different occasions, owing to insulators on the transmission' line being smashed. The longest interruptions were for' an hour and a half. For an hour and a half tho tramway system was frequently brought to a standstill until repairs were effected. Manufacturing firms using electrical energy were also seriously interrupted.
