SALE OF EDUCATION LEASES.
The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Lir'Ued, on Satuiduy submitted at auction the leases of a number o£ Waitaki High School endowments. There was- a largo attendance of farmers and others anxious to secure land, ami though the Board of Govcruois hod increased the upset rental in every case, the competition sent several rentals up to much higher figures. For the 700 acres adjoining the CoiTiedalo Eutate, and uu-til lately worked in conjunction with that property, Hie bidding started at (is per acre, an-d quickly mounted to 10s tid, at which figure It was knocked down to Mr W. Gardiner, of Island Cliff. There was also good competition tor tlio section at the Elilci'slic sol Uemont, which went up from 7s (Id to 11k :Ut before Mv Thomas Hepburn, of Windsor, secured it).
