THEATRE ROYAL.
STEUOK OIL.
On Monday next Miss Maggie
Moore so well-known through Australasia, is to make her appearance with her talented company at the' Theatre Boyal, when she will present the successful comedy drama "Struck Oil". The Sydney Evening Newß of Monday, Juno Bth, Bays : Miss Maggie Moore opened a season at the Palace Theatre on Saturday evening under the Management of Mr William Anderson. Although the drama "Struck Oil," with which the BOason was commenced, is so wellknown to playgoers, still there were | many old friends of the popular actress and vocalist in the large audience who thoroughly enjoyed the piece, and, doubtless, also, there were not a few who witnessed it for the first time. Miss Moore had flattering reception in her original charaoter Lizzie Stofel, and during the progress of the play she was the recipient of numerous floral gifts. The amusing
domestic scene in the first act, in which John StoM's laziness and Ms lovefor his little Lizzie are manifested, the consent of the easy-going shoemaker to go as' 'substitute' for Deacon Skinner to light for his century, in consideration of a sum of money and the release of the mortgage, and the hiding of the document and departure of the head of the household, were .witnessed with a great deal of interest; and fun and pathos wont smoothly together in the volunteers' camp. Interesting, too, from a epectaculav point of view, was the sceno in •'Qiisburg, 1 ' showing the machiuery working. Miss Moore's performance of • the part of Lizzie was as bright ahd.M* aß ever » and her voice has much of the charm that proved so attractive in former years. Her songa iziclnded' "Because I Love You," "Don't make Me Laugh." "Lizzies' farewell," 'TH be there, Mary dear," "The Man with the big Trombone." ''Dome, my Sweet Queen," and "it's for Her." These were rendered with much iftsts, and "Don't Make Me Laugh" produced a sympathetic ripple from the audience, The part of John Stoiel, atsplayei by Hjr Johu f. Ml*
