Yesterday afternoon anumber of gentlemen assembled at the railway station to bid farewell to Mr Donald Hallidayi who, _ ftfter 28 years' connection with the local ■Hj^sgrapti and telephone system, waa leavH^Kfor "Wellington. In the absence of |^KHon. S, E. Shrimskl, Mr J. D. Scott the following testimonial, which H^^Bbeen signed at short notice by about m the town : ' « Oatnaru, j Hg&ibei: 17th, 1896.— Mr Donald Halli-■^■p-Dear Sir, — We, the undersigned, ■Hnfetieard of your intended departure ■HBKmaru, desire through the medium ■^^Bngttmonial to express our high
appreciation of your upright character and of the good service you so willingly and ably rendered m our highly efficient telephone system." Mr Scott referred to Mr Halliday's great courtesyand efficiency m all his dealings with the people of Oamaru, and hoped he would ca- ry with him the pleasantest recollections of his residence here. Mr Halliday expressed his thanks for the testimonial, and said ho had always found all with whom he came m contact m Oamaru to bo gentlemanly aud considerate.
