He opposed Prohibition und the 999 years' lease system, for which he urged that freehold tenure should be substituted. He said that, though opposed to Mr Seddon, he preferred him to Sir Robert Stout. He received*a unanimous vo f e of thanks. Me W. W, Collins addressed a crowded meeting to-night. He declared himself a sapporter of the Government, but nob a Bervile follower. He oriticised the schedule of the Loan Bill, and chimed that the polity of the Liberal party tods y was the same as the policy t-f the - par y under Mr Ballance. He expresses the opinian that Mr Seddon was the only possible leadt rin the House. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried almost unanimously. Auckland, November 17. Atameetingof the prohibitionists m the city to-nighfc, oa a ballot Messrs Bossen, Fovrlds, and Button were recommended as the candidates the party should vo' c for. In the event of Mr Button not standing then Mr Towers is to be taken as the next m the ballot. Mr Button's decision will be made known to-morrow. M-iloolm M'Leod, hotelkeeper, Burkes Pasr;, is coming oub as an Independent Liberal for the Geraldine seat. He has also a grazing run, and is a member of the Mackenzie County Council.
