THE COLLEEN BAWN.

On Thursday, January 2nd, theatregoers will have the opportunity of witnessing the above drama performed in tho Theatre Royal. The piece, which is a dramatised version of Gerald Griffon's celebrated " Collegians," will bo produced by a company of Dunedm's leading amateurs, coached by Mr Brandon Cremer. Of tho performance recently given in the Princess Theatre, one of our Dunedin contemporaries thus speaks : ' ( The audience was not slow to recognise the merits of the performance, and the efforts of all were greeted with the most cordial demonstrations of approval. Mibs K. Blaney was very favorably received, and her impersonation of the true-hearted Irish peasant girl can only be referred to in the most complimentary terms. Mrs H. F. Mooney also deserves a special meed of praise, her acting in tho part of Ann Chute being characterised by naturalness and charming variety. Miss Keating imparted all the requisite grace and dignity to tho character of Mrs Creegan, while Miss Adelaide Hoeloy, as Sheelah, certainly contributed much to tho success of the performance. Tho part of MylesNa Coppaleen taxes the abilities of tho performer in no ordinary degree, but Mr H. F. Mooney was equal to the occasion, and his acting throughout was consistent and effective. The duties devolving upon Mr Harry M'Cormack as Danny Mann were also of an arduous description, and his performance must certainly bo regarded as ono of the most praiseworthy features of the production. Young New Zealand in the lower portion of the " house " exhibited in an unmistakeablo manner its profound contempt for the many evil qualities of Corrigan, so realistically given expression to by Mr P. Carolin. Mr J. Geerin's Hardress Creegan was by no means devoid of merit, whilst adequate- assistance was lent by Messrs T. Hussey, H. Myles, Coatolku, and Coughlin in their respective parts. A special word of praise is due to Mr A. Brandon Cremer for the effective mannor in which ho discharged his duties as stage manager.
