Two ehopa at Rangiora, occupied by W. Jones (watchmaker) and J. Milos (froitorer) woro destroyed by tiro this morning. Jones' stock was saved. Tho building was insured for Ll3OO in tho AU lianco, and Jones' stock and fittings for L3OO in tho Victoria. Mr X Smith, a councillor of «omo years' standing, is tho third candidato announced for tho Christchurch mayoralty. Tho Amuri cattle fair at Oulvordon today was well attended. The entry of 700 head of boef fetched i7a 6d por lOOlbs, and fafc cattle sold as high as 20s. Stores woro in demand.
