A MISADVENTURE. (BY TELEGRAPH.) Invercargill, February 23.
On Thursday evening a firmer at Wyndham Valley nimed NVil M'D.nald and a friend named Robertson went out to shoot wild pigs, which had beon destroying the oats in stook. They took up a kneeling position among tho oats so as to be ready to fire. While so placed a party of four who had scoured a bit of country After pigs came up behind M'Dontld and hia mate. They had been making some noise, which wsi taken for the sounds of pigs by one of the newctmers, a youth named Johnston, and he ■tapped a little ahead. Seeing the kneeling men with their backs to him, he concluded they were pigs, and remarked to bis companions that while too dark to be tare of bis aim, he would fire Into the place. He did so, and put two bullets into M'Donald's body— one through the shoulder and the other through his loins. The man died before morniug. He was 41 years old, and was only recently mar ried. Johnston has given himself np to the police.
