THE MAYORALTY. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — In the history of the past there hns been handed down to all generations a record of how the people of England put down their hob-nuled boots to stay Parliament from abusing their poneis in the harassing of tho people and defraud ing them of their just and lawful rights. Our mind's eye is at present fixed on that celebrated and world-renowned incident which took place in London when the three tailors stayed the downfall of that vast Empire, and by it have endeared themselves to all right thinking men ; and, as histoiy repeats itself, we cannot dc better than compliment- thoso (.wo stalwart champions of the right who, like their predecessor*, hive taken the bull by the horns and have determined that tho people of Oamaiu shall and will hive the mayor of the people's* choice. We aie not sorry to see that there is a split in tho great Reed street cabinet on this question, or no doubt the whole matter would have been fixed and determined beyond cavil, and the wonderful Mr M'Dowell would hare been cirried shoulder high to the civic chair. We havo no doubt tint the great Antonio and his henchmen will carry this affiir to a great success, and but for the split the crash of worlds and the absolute obliteration of all earthly matter (not excepting the lagoon) would ! have been but as a small speck brushed off tho wings of a mosquito. "Eh ! mun, is that no just it, .Johnny. Eh ! eh !" Such wonderful men ne are m our own estimation. You will find the matter of their success m the columns of the Mail from tune to time if you pay attention. Until then, " so long," A Tailor.
