TIMARU. October 20.
A pioneer (Mr John Hay) died at his residence, Kukahu, on Tuesday in bin 70th year. Ho arrived at Port Nicholson on December, 1841, and had nearly completed the half contury. He joined his uncle, Ebenezer Hay, who arrived in 1830 at Petone, thence he went to Pigeon Bay, Panics Peninsula, in 1844, years before the first four ships arrived. He subsequently selected and held Lak« Tekapo station, and 25 years ago left tha station for a farm at Kakahu. October 21. At a mooting of the Now Zealand Kennel Club and owners of poisoned dogt held to-night, it was decided to recommend the Colonial Seoretury to reinstate the regulations respecting the regiatration of the sale of poisons, which were revoked by Order-in-Council on December, 1883, with a view of chocking the indiscriminate a»lo of poisons as at present allowed ; also, to ask the Government to restrict the retail nale of poison to duly qualified chemists only.
