The Premier arrived in town this after* noon. A deputation of the Uniforsity Council waited on him to urge tho claims of. the School of Minos to the L500 hitherto voted. ThD Premier promised to consult tho Mini°tor of Mines on the Hubjoct. A deputation from the Protection League also waited on the Premier to ascertain his views with reference to legia* ! lation on tho tnrift next session. The Premier said it was perfectly clour the tariff required revision, as a number of anomalies hud arisen in its administration The subject would receive careful con" oideration during tho recess. In tha eourso of a convur-rttioiml discussion tho Premier said his views wero ontirely in favor of protection, but thoy did not go very much beyond tho present tariff, which ho was convinced required revision to romovo anomalies.
