THE AKARMAN-CANARIS COMPANY.

The truth of nil tho good things that have been said about thin Company waa amply demonstrated before a capital house at the Public ll.ill last oveniug. Reports stated that tho Akarman-Canans Combination waa the host variety company that had ever visited the various towns up and down the colony, and all of those present last night would readily concede that this company is certainly tho best of its kind that has visited Oaraaru for a considerable time. Id comprises in l)r Canans himself a conjuror and illusionist and mesmerist, whose performances fairly dazzled his audience But Dr Canaria is, unlike most masters of legerdemain, pleased to explain and ehovr how certain things are accomplished ; but that also serves the purpose of intensifying the puzzling character of thoso that are unexplained and apparently inexplicable. Dr Canaris ontertains or rather fascinates his audience, and perplexes while he pleases. In Miss Olive Beaumont, the double-voiced vocalist, the Company possesses a gifted and rare singer. Miss Beaumont produces in one song, '• Old Madrid," tho voice of a powerful and deep baritone ; and in " Waiting" the voice of a sweet rich and full soprano. Miss Feral Akarman, who was attached to tho late Mr Barnum's big show, is not only a clever singer and dancer, but undoubtedly the best lady contortionist that has appeared in Oamaru. Mr Billy Akarman is a host in himself, and as an exponent of tho negro comedian business he has few equals, while his singing is of a first-rate and accomplished character. Mr Cadzow was, for tho singing of •• Tell her I love her so," encored and responded with "The Macgregor's Gathering." Mr Cadzow possesses a fine tenor voice, which he uses well. Mr " Tom Thirnb "—a giant performer of two or three foot in height— sings and dances well, and creates no end of merriment. Last evening's performance concluded with a comic sketch entitled "Oysters," which was cloverJy played. A change of pro^rßtnmo will be put on the boards for this ovenin», and on Saturday a matinee for children will be given.
