WAITAKI ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tho Wuitaki Road Board was held yesterday, when there were present Messr.s Allan (in tho chair), Westlake, Easi-oii, Fricker, M'Pherson, and Wilson. The minutes were read and confirmed. The Railway Department wrote, objecting to putting in a level crossing with gates at Evelino in the place indicated by tho Board, as there woro road lines along the railway lino to meet tho requirements of traffic. The mombeis could not understand tho force of tho objection of tho Department, and the Chairman explained the position of the crossing required, and tho roads in the neighborhood . The Chairman did not think tho Department would giant their request. Perhaps if the Boaid undertook tho expense the Department might grant their request, but the High School Boavd wero the parties most interested. The matter, so far us he could see, must Ho in abeyance in the meantime. On the motion of Mr Westhko, it was decided to allow the matter to stand in abeyanoo in the meantime, Tho Clerk to the Borough Council wrote, objecting to the drain at the North Town Boundary being cleaned out or deepened,and statingthat thebridgesacrossche sumo were in a state of dilapidation, and required to be put in repair. Unless the Board undertook to carry out this work the bridges would bo closed to traffic Mr Westlake said tho bridges wero a convenience to tho people of Oamaru us well as to tho rutopayers in tho Rond district. Tho Chairman thought they should seo tho matter out. Mr Eiston thought if the bridgos were fenced off ifc would soon bo found who were most inconvenienced. Tho question of tho amount of money the Corporation owed the Board came up, and it was suggested that immediato action be taken for recovery. Tt was, however, decided to reply thab the Board objected to bear tho wholo cost of keeping tho bridges in repair, and so far as tho drain was concerned, if the Corporation declined to allow it to be cleaned out or deepened, the Board would take no action. Mr John M'Lean wrolo drawing attention to the state of tho road line in sections 12 and 13, block 6, and intimat ing that ho would hold tho Board responsible for any accident that might occur. Mr Wilson stated that tho work was in progress. l Mr M'Pherson's notice of motion to rescind tho motion closing road lines in blocks 2 and 5 was considered. The motion was earned that the road lines aro not to bo closed. Tho rate for the district of jd in tho £ was confirmed. Mr Allan was appointed treasurer. The attention of the County Council was to be drawn to the fact that in making ft road leading to Mr Nichols they interfered with one of tho Board's roads by cutting through it and leaving it •• high and dry." Mr Westlake said he had been spoken to on the subject, but ho had not seen the road himsolf, so that he was not in possession of tho real fact's. Accounts amounting to L19 12s 6d were passed for payment, The meeting terminated with u voto of thanks to the chair.
