NORTH OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The usual monthly meeting of the North Otsgo Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in the Secretary's office yesterday afternoon, when there were present Messrs Little (president, in the chair), Dawson, Hall, Morton, Stevenson, Hedley, Holmes, Isdale, M'Gregor, Jan. Reid, Balfour, Meek, M'Pherson, and Thomson. The minutes of the previous meeting were rend and confirmed, and the Secretary stated how the judges nominated had declined or accepted the positions. As the gentlemen who had accepted to judge Ayrshires were rather few it was resolved to write to several others. Tho Governor's secretary, Mr Riversdale Walcott, wrote, stating that " His Excellency offered a silver medal to tho Society to be given as an extra prize in any class that your Committee may select." The Secretary stated that a similar prize at Wellington and Christchurch had been offered for the best carriage stallion. The Society accepted the Governor's offer, and decided, on the motion of Mr Thomson, seconded by Mi* Bdlfour, to offer the Governor's medal as a special prize for the best pair of draught mares, either with or without foals at foot. Mr Holmes stated that he had had an offer for the grazing of the show ground, and he believed that tho tenant would be an exceptionally good one. There might possibly be horses put in and perhaps a cow, but sheep principally would be depastured. It was pointed out thnt Mr Thomson had given L7 10s per annum for the show ground, and Mr Thomson renewed his offer, which w<is accepted. The Society (since Mr Thomson gave it up) had not earned L2 by letting it at intervals for travelling stock. Mr Walter Seth-Smith, as local secretary to tho Prohibition Society, wrote, pointing out that the Druids in Christchurch had prohibited the sale of in* toxicating liquors from their gala day, and asked that the Society exclude the sale of liquors at tho Show Ground on the show days. Mr Thomson moved that Mr SethSmith's request be complied with, provided Mr SethSmith contribute tho average revenue for the paat five years derived by the Society from the sale of the booths. This was seconded by Mr Bnlfour. The President said that ho did not desire to bias the members in any way, but he did not think tho Society could do without the revenue. Mr Isdale also took that view, and Mr Hedley said that if tho hotels had been closed in town it would lmvc been n wibe course to prohibit the sale of liquor on the show days ; but seeing that people could obtain liquor in town no advantage would be gained by prohibiting liquor on the Show Ground. The Secretary stated that he had no official information as to the Governor's visiting the show. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Thomson, seconded by Mr Hall, that an invitation to be present at tho show be extended to his Excellency the Governor.
