The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to bo L13,920,000, being a dcrease of LI, 392,000 as compared with the previous week. The proportion of the reserve to the current liabilities of the bank is 38*36 per cent. Consols, 94|, quiet. Three months' bills aro discounted ab 3 per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent iuscribed stock, 102.], ex div. j 3i per cent do, qaiet, 93'. New Zealand long-berried wheat is firm (it 44a, and off-coasb cargoes are quoted at 41s. Canterbury frozen mutton, 4£d per lb; Wellington, 3£d. Beef—forequarters, 2|d. For New Zealand hemp there is better demand at full rates. For kauri gum there is brisk competition. Pale scraped, L7 per cwb ; partly scraped to medium kinds, 58s. South Australian wheat, steady, ab 45s ; Victorian is steady at 44s. Sugar — German beet, quiot, at 13s ; Java, firm, at 15s. No. 1 Best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, quiet, at 47s.
