AUCKLAND. October 10.
The member for the Bay of Islands (Mr It, M. Houston) was entertained at a banquet by a number of his supporteis on Friday ovening. In replying to the toast of his health, he reviewed the late session. The result of the Waikato election was declared to~day at Hamilton by the returning officer, when a somewhat excited scene took place. Mr Murray, the defeated candidate, accused the Waikato Times, a local paper, of partiality. To this the proprietor of the paper (Mr Edgecombe) retorted by calling Mr Murray a liar. However, the excitement aoon subsided. Ihe sum of L51 14s, the profits from Mr Charles Cox's lecture in Auckland, on behalf of the Irish evicted tenants, was sent to-day by the committee to Mr John Dillon. The outward San Francisco mail steamer, leaving this afternoon, will tako specie to the value of L235.000, which is from Sydney, General Booth will arrive hero from Sydney direct on the 20th instant. Instead of the former arrangement the | Choral Hall has been engaged for his i services.
