CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. (BY TELEGRAPH.) Dunedin, February 28.
The meeting of the Congregational Union was brought to a close to-day. The memorial of the Women's Christian Temperance Union iras considered, and a resolution passed that while expressing entire sympathy with the Union in its work the Council deem it inadvisable to make a delirerance on the women's suffrage question. A resolution was proposed regret at the continued exclusion of the Bible from schools, and heartily joining with other denominations in their efforts to bring about a change in the Act, which is believed to be the wish of a majority of the adult population ; but was negatived. A motion was carried expressing sympathy with the efforts for the promotion of temperance reform, and with the Alliance in the endeavor to secure for the people power to veto the liquor traffic The Key E. Walker, Sk Clair, was elected chairman ; Rev J. Elkin, Auckland, treasurer ; and Rev — Hooton Auckland, secretary. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Nelson.
