THE MELBOURNE BETTING MARKET.

There has been a fair amount of wagering this week, says the Australasian, books having been opened on the V.A.T. C. Grand National Hurdle Roce end Steeplechase, which have been made the medium of some spirited doublo-cvont betting. Tha favorite selection has been Huntsman and Game, about whom 100 to 30 has been taken to a goodly euro, while Sir Launcelot and Game have been supported at 100 to 8. Ocean and Gnme hava also baen coupled at 100 to 5, and Lady Aihton and Studley have been mentioned for the Steeplechase in connection with Huntsman and Sir Launcelot for the Hurdle Race. For the Caulfield Cup Silvermine is still in favor at 100 to 6, which is taken when offered, though tha bookmakers do nut seem disposed to lay except at 100 to 7. Of the others the horse most in demand this week bas been Little John, whose victory at GeeloDg caused enquiries to bo made about him, •nd 100 to 3 and 100 to 4 met with acceptance. The only movement in connection with the V.R O. Derby was the introduction of Chesham, who wes backed at 100 to 10, and for the Melbourne Cup Trenton has received support at 100 to 4 to win L 2500. and Little John for a few hundreds at 100 to 3.
