June 10. During tbe trial of Lucas for wounding his wife with intent, an extraordinary scene occurred. The prisoner averred that hia wife was perjuring herself because of a hatred she had taken to him, and for the sake of " that tall Chinaman." He declared that he was not, and could prove it, the father of the child. He asked /or an examination, and he and Dra M'lntyre and Hogg retired for the purnose. After a quarter of an hour they returned into court, and the medical men informed hia Honor that the prisoner was a cryptorchid.
