AUCKLAND. January 28.
January The following entries have been made for the regatta : Champion Race—Brigantines, schooners, and ketches of 50 tons and upwards — Torea, Borealiß, Sovereign, Linda Weber, Myrtle, Caledonia, Edith, Belle Brandon. In transhipping passengers from th 6 Waikaia to the Annie Melbank, at Wanganui Heads, at night, a passenger fell overboard. Captain Aubrey jumped overboard and saved him, at the peril of his life, as a strong tide was running. The Mayor announces that he intends devoting L2OO of hia salary to a free public library. The School Committee hold a provincial conference respecting Ui^.l powers under the Act, and the relations of the Education Board to the committees. A new outrigger for the Auokland Racing Club, landed from the Frietas from London, will be used in the regatta.
