OAMARU SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The first meeting of the new committee was held last evening, the members present being Messrs Fleming, Bee, Procter, Stevenson, and Locke. On the motion of Mr Bee, seconded by Mr Stevenson, Mr Fleming was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman expressed regret that the services of Messrs Smith, Mollison, and Mitchell had been lost to the com*
mitte. They had fulfilled their duty conscientiously while connected with the committee. Mr D. S. Montagu was appointed treasurer ; Mr Hardy was appointed secretary at the same amount of salary as before. A letter from the Rev. A. B. Todd wa3 read, asking that the kirk session might, be allowed to use a room in the South School for Sabbath school purposes. The request was granted on the condition that any additional cost for cleaving the school should be borne by the session. It was decided that the windows of the j old school should be boarded up. On the motion of Mr Procter, it was resolved, in conformity with an expressed wish of householders at the late meeting that the sum of LlO be paid to Sergeant - Major M'Pherson for his services at drillinstructor to the echools. The committee resolved to meet at 7.30 p.m. in summer and at 7 p.m. in winter, on the second Friday in each month. Some important business was deferred until next meeting and the committee rose.
