WELLINGTON. January 27.
The date fired for the payment of the first instalment of the property-tax is March Bth, and for the second, the 22ud of the same month. At a meeting of the Wellington Seamen's Union the following resolution was carried : That all the boats strike for the eight hours movement on the 31st January, and come out if they don't get eight hours to be on the articles. A meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Rifle Association waa held this evening, to make arrangements for the Nelson meeting. Lieut. Ellis, of Nelson, was elected on the committee, vice Major Jones, deceased. The prospects for the meeting are considered good, and a large attendance ia anticipated. The Union Company have agreed to conTey members of the Association to Nelson and back for single fares. Hobson and Co., of London, have presented a cup for competition. Owins; to all the tents being iasijed for service in the North Island, the committee suggests that tflams coming from other places should bring their own tents, to prevent disappointment. Arrangements hare been made for a full supply of targets, so as to assure the meeting being got over in shorter time than heretofore. Influential sub-committees have been appointed to canvass for prizes.
