DUNEDIN. January 27.

During the passage qi the steamer Albion from Lyttelton to this port one of the steerage passengers from Auckland to Melbourne, named James Burnett Pike, was missed. He was last seen by his mate at 2 a.m. yesterday, when he was muttering to himself in his bunk. Previously he had been drinking in Auckland, and was suffering from its effeclf. Pike had been gum digging at North Waiaroa, and returned to Auckland on Jauuary 11th. He procured some medicine in Ohristcburch, the greater part of which ha had taken,

Thomas K. Dow, agricultural reporter of the Melbourne Leader, is visiting this colouy for the purpose of iurmshing that paper with a series of reports on the agricultural interests of New Zealand. Mr Dow arrived in the Te Anau yesterday. The estimated expenditure of the Education Board for the year ended 31st December, 1881, amounts to L 113.765, of which L 40,000 is for new buildings.
