TO TRAVEL IN OAMARU DISTRICTS The Pure Clydesdale Stallion fiLEN LYON. GLEN LYON, 4 years old, is a beautiful bright bay, and stands 16 hands 2 inches. He has got a set of grand legs, finely feathered, -with excellent hoofs, properly set on the ground. Glen Lyon has more bone than any horse in the district, measuring 12$ inches below the knee. His temper is high and shows a lot of mettle, but he is perfectly docile and tractable. His career in the ring has been unprecedented : as a yearling he took third at Oamaru — only time exhibited that season ; as a two-year old was first at Timaru and first at Oamaru ; as a three-year old he was awarded first at Christchurch and first at Oamaru. In short, Glen Lyon was reckoned champion of the South Island for two years. His sire was that grand old horse Glen Esk, imported from Scotland, who took first premiums both at Home and in Victoria, His grand-sire Glenlee, by Garibaldi, by Clydesdale Tarn, out of Mr Campbells prize mare Lily. Glenlee took the Highland Society's first premium. Glen Esks dam Darling, by Mosstrooper, out of Jeannie Dears, took the Annandale Cup at Annan. Jeannie Deans took the fijakprisei/ji.^aHb: eventually won the £30 premium offered by the Royal Irish Agricultural Society at Dublin. Glen Lyon's dam is the now famous Maggie Lauder, imported by Mr George Aikenhead from Victoria in 1874, and presently owned by the Hon. M, Holmes. Maggie Lauder may be safely set down as the champion brood mare of New Zealand. Her filly, 2 years old, sold at Fleming and Hedleys sale, fetched 185 guineas, is now owned by Mr Menlove, and considered the best filly south of the line. Nimmo. Napoleon's dam is the celebrated brood mare Jess, imported from Tasmania, and selected by the late Mr J.'Nimmo. Jess is also erranddam of the famous sirt Sir William Wallace, lately ownea by Messrs Fleniing and Hedley. Teims £4 Groom's fee ss, payable at first service. TO STAND THIS SEASON, At the Windsor Park Estate, near Oamaru, The Pure-bred Clydesdale Stallion TORD CLYDE. LORD CLYDE, a b-autiful bay, foaled on 24th December, 1876, is by Duke of Edinburgh, out of the owner's famous prize mare Heather Bell (imported). Duke of Edinburgh is by Emperor, out of Counters, got by Glasgow Geordie, a horse well-known in Scotland as • prize-taker. Countess, which has taken numerous prizes at Oamaru and Timaru, also gained first prize as a brood mare at Dunedin in 1878 ; and in 1879, besides gaining the Ist prize in her class, was awarded the Champion prize as the best mare on the ground. Heather Bell was winner of the second prize at Geelong National Show when & year old ; when a 2-year-old was first *t the P. P. Society's Show, Melbourne, and afterwards gained numerous first prizes at various shows in Victoria, only being defeated once by the imported mare Glasgow Maggie, which was sold at Mr M'Culloch's sale for 830 guineas, and since coming to New Zealand has been the champion mare at Timaru and Oamaru for the last seven years. Her dam, Princess Maggie, the winner of 27 first and 3 second prizes, was bred by Messrs Nelson and Thomson, Victoria. Her sire was Heather Jock, by the renowned prizetaker Blackleg, which horse gained more first prizes than any other horse in the Colonies.
