KAKANUI ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board «u held at the effice, Tyne street, yesterday. Present — Messrs Gilchrist (in ths chair), M'Kay, M'Donald, A. H. Maude, Gemmell, Elder, Hedley, Aikenhead. Manning, Thomsou, and Oliver (engineer). The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved. A duplicate Treasury voucher for L 492 10s t being subsidy for half-year ending June, was received. Mr W. H. Teschemaker wrote consenting to road deviations in Block 1., Kauroo. A letter was read from Mr Oscar Davis, of Island Stream, expressing surprise at the request to have the closed road-line between sections 13 and 14, Block 8, 0.5.D., re-opened, as it was exchanged, for that at present in use ; and further, asking the Board to take steps tn complete the transfer. It was resolved that the necessary proceedings be taken to comply with Mr Davis* request The Engineers laid on the table a survey plan of the proposed road to the bush Nurre on Cape Wanbrow. It was resolved that tracings be sent to the Otago School Commissioners, and to Mr Black, as attorney for Mr F. Fenwick, asking their approval of the same. Mr Hedley reported that the meeting of ratepayers eailed for the purpose had approved of the exchange of road-lines in South Oamaru, and it was resolved that the plans be forwarded to the County Council for the approval of that body, as required by the Public Works Act. The Engineer reported approving of the proposed exchange of road-line in Block 1., Kauroo, but intimating that the plan submitted by Mr W. Fen wick was deficient, in not having some of the linkages marked. It was resolved that Mr Fen wick be asked to have the plan completed, as the Board's engineer oould not supply the deficiency without a fresh survey. The Engineer further reported that the N. Z. and A L. Co. had not submitted tracing of the proposed roads through the Totara estate, and it was resolved that a oommittee, consisting of Messrs Booth, Elder, Geramell, Hedley, and the Engineer, wait on Mr Brydone, with reference to the old coal-pit road, and that from the main road past Totara woohhed to Windermere. A large number of tenders were opened and dealt with as follows :— Contract 52, forming and gravelling portion of Beach road, 8. Busbatch, L 127 19s ; Contract 53, erection of arched culverts and formation on Beach road at South Oamaru, S. Rutbatch, L 352 18s lOd. The lowest tender for Contract 54 being considerably in excess of the Engineers' estimate, it was re- , solved that fresh tenders be called for. Accounts amounting to L 240 having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned.
