MELBOURNE.— The Argus of the 24th nit. reports : In the import market business continues to shew more than ever the impress of the coming holidays, as even the auction siles held to-day have not been marked by the slightest desiie on the part of buyers to operate to any extent. Breadstuff-, are moving quietly at very full rates. Sales of fine old flour are making at Lll 17s 6d, while at auction Lll 12s fid was accepted. For new flour we continue to quote Lll 10a to Lll 12^ Gd. Wheat still maintains firmness, and at the auction sales a fair business was done, realising for good new wheat ss, and os OM. A parcel of 500 bags has been sold privately at 5s OJd likewise. Private telegrams from Sydney state in addition to the information published this morning regarding the Frank Marrian, from San Francisco to this port, now about due, that the Gladstone, for Sydney, wa3 nearly due, with a cargo of 3000 centals of barley, SOO tons of flour, and 150 tons of wheat. The steamer which has just arrived there has bfcought forward 1000 centals of barley and 3000 centals of oats for Melbourne . Arrivals of wheat by rail from the country districts for last week are very considerable ; flour, however, does not figure so largely in these returns. Oats have not been much noticed. Good to fine feeding range from 4s 8d to 5s 2d, but the market is very barely supplied. A small lot wjis, however, placed at ss, and 900 bushels were sold publicly at 4s IOJd to 5-?. Millin? oats are worth os 3d to 5s sd. Maize continues to be moved off in trade parcels at 4s B^d to 4s 9d. At auction, damaged was quitted at 4s sd. Bran has advanced to Is 3d.
