DUNEDIN. July 20.
A public meeting was hold at Andersons Bay laot evening, whim it was resolved — That tho County Council bo requested innnediataly to adopt tho whole-, of the Counties Aot, and that a petition bo presentod to the Government praying that tho whole County bo declared a Railway District undor tho District Railways Act for the purpose of the construction of a railway through tho centre of tho Peninsula from Andersons Bay to Porto-, bello and the Heads.
The Committee of tho Chamber of Commerce have resolved to recommend tho Ohnmber to give their trnpiporjivto tho proposal that tv notice of all bankruptcies should' bo advertised in the "Mercantile Gazette" of Now Zealand. The Hon. H. S. Chapman has written to the Chamber of Commerce recommending that the Government should reduce' the railway fares to 2d per mile for first class, and Id per mile for second class. He points out the New Zealand charge* are tho maximum rates for a minimum •pood.
