R. M. Court.—Yesterday boina a public holiday, thoro was no sitting of this Court.

San Francisco Mail.—Mails for Europe and Amorica, via San Francisco, close at Oamaru on Wednesday next, at 10 a.m.

A Lively Locality. — The Portland " Guardian " relates that 162 Biiakos wore despatched in three days by two young men working in a paddock at Oakdalo, near Belfast, Victoria.

English Church.—Easter Day falling this year on tho third Sunday of tho month, tlio usual monthly services at Hampden and Otepopo will bo hold on the following Sunday.

Wesley Church.—Tho Roy. Henry Dowabury will proach at this Church tomorrow morning and evening, taking for his subject in tho morning "The Christian's AsHuranco," and at tho evening service, " Christ's Invitation to tho weary."

The Taieri Fasting-Girl. — According to latest accounts Miss Boss, tho Taiori fasting girl, is now in a very low and weak state. Her eyos 1 are bright, but she is greatly emaciated, takes very littlo nourishment, and suffers from a pain in the side.

Motherly Love.—A Cheviot ewe, which havo boon driven in a Hock from Northumberland to Suthcrlandshiro, was found one day on her own pasturo, followed by her lamb, having traced her way back hundreds of milos, probably from hill to hill, with many devious unrecorded wanderings. Another ewe of tho same brood found her way back from Caithnosshiro to Roxburghshire.

Cricket.—Tho return match, Oamaru Tradesmen v. Roidston, was played on tho ground of tho lattor yesterday, and resulted in a victory for tho former, tho scores being respectively 132 and 89. Some good play was exhibited on both sides, tho playing of Messrs Edwards and Cook© for Oamaru, and A. M'Kay for Roidston boing particularly flno.

Good Friday.—Yesterday, boing Good Friday, was a3 a matter of course observed as a closo holiday, all tho business establishments, the Courthouse, and Banks being closed, and tho Post and Telegraph offices observing Sunday hours. Tho usual services were hold in St. Luke's (Anglican), and St. Patrick's (R.C.) Churches, and among those who woro not ohurchwiso inclined, riding, driving, or boating parties were the order of tho day.

An Unnatural Brutr. —On Monday night last, says our Waimato contemporary, a stray bull broke into a stock-yard in which wero ten milch cows belonging to Mr A. Hayes, sawmillor, Waimato Bush, and gored two of them to death. A man sleeping iv a tent near tho yard was awoko by tho bellowing of tho cows, and hastened to tho scene of tho occurrence just iv time to see tho bull goring tho second beast. That unnatural boast is now in the pound, and should havo a leaden pill.

The Notorious M'Laren.—Thursday's "Morning Herald" writes :—JohnM'Laron, of political fame, figured at tho City Polico Court yostorday, before Mr I. N. Watt, on a charge ot having boon drunk and disorderly on Tuesday night, and also with having assaulted Polico Constablo James Dunleary while in tho execution of his duty, Mr E. Cook appeared for the accused. From tho evidence it appeared that it had taken four policemen to convoy M'Laren to tho lock-up, and that within tho last twelve months he hns been twico charged with assaulting constables. Mr Cook stated to tho Court that his client intonded to leave Dunedin on Monday next for Melbourne His Worship said ho would remand tho case till Wednesday, tho 24th inst., in order that the accused might havo an opportunity of clearing out, and thus ridding Dunedin of a nuisance. Ho would bo bound over in his own recognisance of LlO to appear at tho Polico Court on Wednesday next to answer to his chargo, his bail to bo estreated if ho did not appoar. His WorsTiip ox plained that if he (M'Larou) departed for Melbourno and over camo back again to Dunedin steps would bo taken to recover tho amount from him, and that ho would also bo imprisoned for tho assault upon tho constable. M'Laren thanked his Worship for his docision, and said that ho would rather clear out to Mclbourno and stay there, as ho had not had a vary good timo of it in Dimediii anyhow.
