Thoro is a lively controversy in tho Prosa between Mr Lusk and "J.P." and J. S. Macfarlane out of tho formor's statomonts at the Otahuhu mooting re tho ' education rato collecting scandal. Mr Lusk denied that Sir George Grey alluded to him at tho mooting of Auckland membors as one of the " vultures fattening on what ought to bo tho education funds the people. Mr Swanson, M. 11.1t., has ]>üblishod a letter staling that Mr Mucfarlano was right, as ho hoard Sir GeorgeGioy use such l.mgua^o. between Messrs Lusk and Macfarlane is a painful thing to witness. Wo can only regret that Mr Lusk should have retired from publio life marked by controversy which had been better avoided. In Ihe Middle Party ho was looked to as a *ot improbable Attorney-General or Minister of Education. As events arose the Middle Party disappeared, and now, having lost the confidence of tho Ministerial Party, ho retires from political life."
