THE VOLUNTEERS. OAMARU RANGERS v. WELLINGTON ARTILLERY.
This match was fired yesterday at the respective ranees of the competing corps, J. O'Meagher, Esq., acting as umpire here on Jbehalf of Wellington, and the Captain of the 'Wellington "Veterans acting as umpire at tliat place on behalf of the Oaraaru team. The weather here was calm and bright. Firing commenced at a quarter past 5 a.m., and was not concluded until about 8 o'clock, the marking being very slow, at which not a little disatisfactlon was expressed. The following were tho conditions of tlltj zmltcli, "ri^. : — Ranges, 200, 400, 500, and 600 yards; 5 rounds at each. Targets at 200, Wimbledon (8in. bull's-eye, 2ft. centre) ; at the longer ranges, 6x6; centre, 4 i 4 ; bull'a-eye, 2x2. Position at 200, Hythe j at the other ranges, any. The scores) which were below the usual average of the team, were as follows : —
We should mention that the Umpire, who was with the marker at the targets, made the score 397 — thvee points more than was registered by the officer (Licuti Locke) in charge at the range. > A. telegram received from Wellington from Lieut. Bmndon, and countersigned by the Umpire, Captain Halse, gives the Wellington score as 363 — average 45f ; leaving the Oamaru Company victors by 31 points, or, according to the Umpire, 34.
' OAMARU v. EAST TAIERI.
This match (20 a-side) comes off to-morrow morning. Firing to commence at 5 o'clock sharp. Ranges, 200, 400, and 500 yards ; 7 rounds at each ; class targets. Position, Hytue at 200 ; any at 400 and 500.
