RESOLUTIONS ON THE LAND ACT.

The following resolutions on fcho Land Act were laid on the table of the Provincial Council on Thursday evening last, by the Treasurer : — 1. That leases should be granted to the pastoral tenants coming in within the time prescribed, for all, or so much of their runs as it shall be considered ■will not be required for settlement within tho next two years, and which the Superintendent under the powers granted to him shall not deem it otherwise inexpedient to grant. 2. That, previously to the issue of pastoral leases, notice should be given to the persons to whom it is intended to issue them, that it is proposed to introduce a Bill into the General Assembly giving power to annex to such leases such conditions as may be considered absolutely required for the public welfare or for maintaining public engagements, but which condition cannot be embodied in tho leases, on account of provision for the same not having been made in the Act. 3. That, in accordance with section 35, tho unsold lands in Hundreds which have been proclaimed for over seven years, should bo at once exposed for sale in the manner provided by such section. 4. That, to ascertain the size of the allotments in Buch Hundreds most likely to find ready sale, applications should be receiyed at the Land Office for tho period of one month ; and that then, after due notice, the land should bo offered for sale by auction in lotB as nearly in conformity with the applications as may be found convenient and consistent with public interests. 5. That for particular works, provision for which iB made by the Appropriation Ordinance, it is desirable tho Superintendent should, in accordance with section 51, have power to contract for payment in land in liou of money ; provided that tbe works for which such option is allowed by the Superintendent should be specified in the Appropriation Ordinance.
