POVERTY BAY.
Tho Tauranga correspondent of the " Herald," of July 10, writes : — Sinco my last wo havo had sovoral letters from Andrew Matcto and his peoplo, urging our natives to join them : thoy avo dated Ruatnhuna and Nuku-o-to-whenua, Juno Gth, and wero brought by his daughter Harata. These letters profess to bo very reliant on their own resources ; that, in fact, tho timo is at hand when their religion will declaro its strength in the face of tho world, and tho intnuling pakoha will bo driven to sea from wheuco ho came ; that tho revenues hitherto sustained are a means towards tho end, that of eventually strengthening tho hands of the Maori King. I am sorry to sco drunkenness steadily increasing. Thoro is scarcely a storo where you cannot, whether native or pakcha, obtain intoxicating drinks without let or hindrance.
