OAMARU MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.

A Committee meeting of the Institute took pl.ice on the afternoon of Monday last, when there weie present — Messis Black (in the chah), Ingiam, Suieall, Gibbs, Sumpter, and Fullaitou. The minutes of pi evious meeting were read and confirmed. Tho Repoit of the Sub-Committee appointed at pr« vious meeting was lead and leceived. Consideration of the repoit was postponed till af tei heating the statement of tlie Tiensuier. Mr FulLirton ropoi ted that at present the sum at the credit of the Institute in the Bank of New Zealand was L'28 Is. 3d He had an additional sum of LI 15s m hand, thus making a total of L29 16s. 3d. The linbih ties amounted to L49 7s. 4d., showing a deficit of L19 11s. Id. On tho motion of Mr Ingram, the Treasurer's report was adopted , Mr Fullarton then moved — "That, as the Mechanics' Institute is not paying expenses, but incuiring daily inci easing debt, a final appe.il be made to the people of Oaniaru to suppoit an Institution designed for their benefit, before lesolving to wind up its affairs." The motion was seconded by Mr Sumpter, and carried unanimously. It was thereupon moved by Mr Ingram, and seconded by MrSmeall, "That a public meeting be held on the evening of Fiiday first, in the Institulte, and that ths same be duly advei tis>ed ; also, that the Committee adjourn till Friday evening, immediately after the meeting; and in the meantime tho Secretary «nd Tieasurer to be requested to diaw up a repoit to be read at said meeting." Carried unanimously. This concluded the business of the meeting.
