OAMARU ANNUAL RACES.
An enthusiastic meeting of gentlemen interested in the Oamaru Races took place last evening in the Star and Gaiter Hotel. M. K. Millet, Esq., picsided. Mr Ji M. Payne, the Tiea^urer for tho last year's races, lead a b.Uance shoet to the meetiug, showing a bal.ince in his hands of L46 10». Tliis announcement was leceived with applause, and on the motion of Mi Luke, seconded by Air Waddell, the rupoit was unanimously adopted. Aftei a few remarks ftoiu Mr P.vyne as to tho manner in wliich the balance should Le handed over to the tiew Kace Committee, it was moved by Mr Luke, seconded by Mr G It. Taj lor, and earned, that Mr Pay no beieelected Treasurer. On the motion of Sir Payne, seconded by Mi- Luke, Mi Taylor was chosen sis Sec. elary. A discussion ensued as to the time of Inkling the races. Mr W r add<ll pioprsed the 2nd of Januaiy, but an amendment, to the effect that the day should hu left to the \Voiking Committee to fi\, w.is carried. The following gen Memo" were then appointed a Woikni" Committee (who are to meet on Fi iday evening, at 8 o'clock, in the same place, for the d sp.iteh of business) :— Messrs Henry Campbell (Totar.i), G It Taylor, It. M. Payue, /. B. Williams, U. S. Lees, Edmund Gibson, W. H. Ostlor H. R. P.uker, M. It. Miller, A. Dansey, J Waddell, W. H. Jackson, H. Ju uis, ¥. Alngnho, and G Harper Mi Waddell intimated his intention of presenting a ten guinea saddle to the fund, and a Subset iption List was op°n' d on the spot, and donations to the extent of neatly L50 put down. A vote of thanks to tho Chairman, concluded tlis business.
