ROBERT BURNS ANNIVERSARY On Saturday evening last there were over 100 present at the Robert Burns Anniversary Supper held in the A. & P. Hall. There was a Scottish atmosphere prevailing, w'ith good fellowship and the humour of the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands predominant. Chief J. Cowie gave the address to the haggis and Scottish songs and dances were the entertainment. Toasts were : “The Immortal Memory” by Past Chief J. Morrison, “Scotland” by Mr. C. Michie with Mr. J. Cowie in reply, “Kaitaia and District” by Mr. Surman with Mr. I. J. Berghan in reply, “Land of Adoption” by Mrs. W. Parker, “The Ladies” by Mr. W. S. Beckett with Mrs. R. D. Hanlon in reply. Vocal items were given by Jean McMullen, Mrs. F. Begley with Mrs. G-. - B. MsKi&nsn accompanying. Highland dances were given" dy~ Audrey Foster, and other dances by a quartette of dancers, lelona Taaffs, June White, lona Stanton, and Audrey Foster, with Mrs. L. White as accompanist. Piper G. Hamilton of Whangarei was the piper for the evening, and Mr, D. Hamilton was present representing the Whangarei and District Pipe Band. Feasting and fun was the order of the evening, and all present voted that never had there been a better anniversary. i
