Council Resignation

Awanui Riding Vacancy There will be a vacancy for the Awanui Riding of the Mangonui, County Council, owing to the resignation of the sitting member, Cr. W. J. Bell who is leaving the district to take up residence in the Hikurangi area.

In accepting this resignation with regret, the councillors individually paid glowing tribute to the work of Cr. Bell and wished him every success in his new home. The Chairman, Cr. W. J. Steed, paid tribute to Cr. Bell’s service and devotion to the interests of the County, and hoped that once Mr. Bell had settled in his new home, the Far North would again see him figuring prominently in public affairs in his new county. Mr. A. M. Theed, County Engineer, and Mr. A. J. Mackintosh, County Clerk, also wished Mr. Bell the best of luck, and thanked him on behalf of the County Staff for his co-opera-tion in the past. The Returning Officer, Mr. Mackintosh, has made an announcement calling for nominations to fill the vacanv created, and, if necessary, will nominate a date for an election to be held.
