Stock Sales Competition for all classes of cattle was keen at the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s stock sale, conducted at Peria by Mr. Leo Sloane on Thursday of last week. Local buyers only were in evidence and with the exception of boners, all lots offered remained in the district. Prices were firm on late quotations. Details are as follows : 21-vear-old Hereford steers £l3, 31-year-old Hereford steers £ls, 11-year-old Hereford steers £9, 21-year-old Jersey steers (good condition) £9 2/6, light Jersey beef cows £7/10/to £B/10/-, heavy boners £5/2/- to £6/8/-, lighter boners £3/5/- to £5, bulls £4/10/- to £6/10/-.
Borough Balances Congratulations on his yeai’’s work, including the drafting of estimates and counsel regarding expenditure, were offered the Borough Clerk by the Mayor at Monday’s meeting. The Balance Sheet for the year has not yet been drawn up in its final form but figures available reveal that the debit balance in the general account is only £559. The Mayor said that the Borough was in the gratifying position of having no great financial worries with which to start the new year.
