Annual Meeting of Red Cross Sub-Centre
The annual meeting of the Kaitaia Red Cross Sub-centre was held In the library on Tuesday, 4th May. Those present were Messrs. Hedditch, Bird and Nicholls, Mesdames Geard, Hedditch, Bird, Reynolds, Atkins, Osbaldiston, Nicholls, Crosby, Misses McDiarmid, Holder' and Tullock. Apologies were received from Mrs. Paulson, Mrs. Carson, Mr. Kndx and Mr. O’Sullivan. The chief activity of the Branch for the year was a very successful street collection and appeal for membership. There is still felt a great need to re-organise the Sub-centres in outlying districts. The Treasurer’s balance sheet showed that the financial commitment to Headquarters is according to the County area, hence the need for wide membership. The Junior Red Cross organiser, (Mrs. Osbaldiston) reported seven schools with Junior Red Cross Circles. Their main effort for the year was the sending of food and clothing parcels overseas. Miss McDiarmid (Matron of the Hospital) spoke of the assistance that trained V.A.D.s could be to the hospital in all cases of emergencies, such as epidemics ijjiich cause increased patients and depleted nursing staff. It was decided to take steps towards re-organising V.A.D. classes. Election of Officers The following officers were elected for 1948-49 year : President Mrs. Geard ; VicePresidents Messrs. Hedditch and O’Sullivan ; Secretary—Mrs. Crosby; Treasurer —-Mrs. Paulson ; Auditor— Mr. W. H. Atkins ; Joint Council — Mesdames Hedditch, Bird and Crosby ; Junior Red Cross Organiser— Mrs. Osbaldiston ; Committee All members present at the meeting, as well as Mr. A. Rae.
