DANCE Another of the popular monthly dances organised by members of the Peria Welfare Committee was held in the Peria Hall on Tuesday night. Posinkovich’s Orchestra supplied the music, with Mr. Ted Jones as a capable m.c. ”fhe winners of the monte carlo were Mr. George Burgoyne and Miss M. Downs. A case of applies was won by Miss Ironside, ticket No. 18. Miss Ironside generously donated the case as a further prize. Table Tennis Club The Welfare Committee have sponsored a Table Tennis Club, which now has about thirty members, with Mr. Ray Mills as Captain and Mr. Eric Trigg Secretary.

TECHNICAL EDUCATION Sponsored by the Kaitaia Electrical and Radio Association, a meeting was recently convened of representatives of that body and of the various trades to discuss the. formation of night classes in the new High School. The headmaster of the High School (Mr. A. W. Bird) was in attendance, and he gave a valuable outline of the requirements of the Education Board before the classes could be commenced. Subsequently the Kaitaia Technical Education Committee was formed to pursue the matter further, and arrangements are in train now to make a definite move with the Education Bords. It is hoped to start classes in Enfiineering and woodworking subjects, and any person interested is asked to hand his name into the Secretary, Mr. Combs, at the Power Board office.

VICTORIA VALLEY NATIONAL PARTY The annual meeting of the Victoria Valley National Party which had been postponed on April 30th, was held last Thursday evening, May 9th. There was a large attendance. Mr. W. G. Thompson was elected Chairman and Mr. S. W. Cope elected Secretary. An energetic Committee, including three ladies, was formed. The delegates to attend the meeting at Kaikohe on the 27th May are Messrs. C. Switzer, R. Beazley, W. G. Thompson and S. W. Cope. It was announced during the meeting that Mr. S. Smith, present M.P. for the Bay of Islands, would address a public meeting in the Memorial Hall on Thursday evening, May 23rd.
