Mangonui Methodist Circuit
The recent quarterly meeting of the Mangonui Methodist Circuit was held in the Fairburns Church, when the Rev. L. R. M. Gilmore presided over a good attendance of officials. Several apologies for absence were received, and regret was expressed at the absence of Mrs. H. D. Foster through her continued illness. A good deal of discussion followed from various matters arising out of the previous meeting, amongst them one on temperance and the amount raised for Alliance funds. The quarterly financial statement presented by Mr. Bruce Foster (Circuit Steward) showed a good credit balance. The Rev. Mr. Gilmore was unanimously invited to remain for a further term in the circuit, eulogistic references being made to his good work throughout the district. The spiritual work of the Church created a good deal of discussion, when some good suggestions were advanced. The chairman spoke of the need tc rehabilitate the work in the Solomons as soon as permission to return was granted to the Missionaries and Medical staff. He hoped the special than! offering for the Solomon Islands would receive a hearty response. Letters of condolence are being senl to several families in bereavement. Mrs. A. Tracey and Mr. J. T. Williams are to act as circuit representatives at the forthcoming synod ir Auckland. After other routine business th< meeting closed, the Fairburns ladies then treating all to a hearty supper.
