WAITANGI TRUST BOARD

At the annual meeting of the Kaitaia Dairy Company, Mr. V. H. Reed of Paihia, who is hon. secretary of the Waitang-i Trust Board, appealed for gifts of heifer calves by local farmers to the Board for the purpose of building up a dairy herd on the estate as a means of raising finance for the upkeep of the historic site.

Mr. Reid explained that under the deed of trust no appeal could be made to the Government for financial assistance, and it was proposed to utilise 300 acres of grass land on the estate for dairying in order to supplement the funds which were still insufficient for upkeep. Calves had been promised by Bay of Islands farmers, and if similar offers were received from farmers in the neighbourhood of Kaitaia arrangements would be made to pick the calves up at the farms in February next.
