AHIPARA STORE THIEVES SENTENCED

Barney Allen, aged 22, and Peter Snowden, aged 20, who pleaded guilty to breaking and entering Mr. I. J. Berghan’s store at Ahipara which was accidentally set on fire and destroyed, were each sentenced by Mr. Justice Callan last week to 18 months hard labour to be concurrent with the sentence at present being served. His Honor said, “You and other Maoris in your neighbourhood have to be taught that this type of gross lawlessness and lack of respect for other peoples property will not be tolerated.”
