Oruru=Fairburn Dairy Co.’s Annual Meeting

There was a representative attendance of Shareholders at the above Company’s annual general meeting, which was presided over by the Chairman of Directors (Mr. J. W. Hoskin). ] The Chairman made reference to men of the N.Z.E.F. then home on furlough and said he felt sure they would receive a warm welcome from all, with a wish that their leave would prove a very happy one. At the same time no one must forget those who had given their lives to ensure the freedom of the Dominion, and indeed of the world. Those present then stood for a brief period of silence as a tribute to those who had made the supreme sacrifice. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr. F. Jecentho, then in hospital with an illness, and a wish for his speedy recovery. The Chairman, during his remarks in dealing with the Annual Report, had stated that he had been compelled, owing to labour shortage, to dispose of his dairy herd and for the time being relinquish dairying. Several shareholders expressed the opinion that the Chairman should be asked to retain his office for the duration of the war. The Secretary pointed out that, in accordance with the Company’s Articles of Association, Mr. Hoskin would automatically retire at the end of his present term, although he would then be still eligible for reI election. i A resolution was then passed, askj ing the Chairman to retain his office < until the end of his present term. Mr. Hoskin, in consenting to the meeting’s request, thanked shareholders for this ( signal mark of their confidence in him, which he said he appreciated more than mere words could express. The question of the possibilty of , establishing a lime works was dis- : cussed, and it was explained what steps had been taken in this connection. It was generally agreed that such an industry should prove of great benefit to the district. Mr. L. G. Thompson was re-appoint-ed Auditor. The Director’s remuneration was fixed on the previous year’s basis.
