Letter From Prisoner of War

At the last meeting of the Waiharara W.D.F.U. the following letter from Cpl. A. S. McKee, who is a prisoner of war in Germany was read. It is dated February 17, 1943 : “Thanks a million for your second parcel, which I received on 3rd February. Words cannot express my gratitude, thanks and appreciation to your very efficient branch, and I wish you all the very best of luck and a happy and prosperoups New Year. We have more N.C.O.’s coming to this

Oflag every day, and I meet chaps I haven’t seen since Greece who were captured there. Your woollies have come in very handy for me as the winters in this country are bitterly cold, though this winter has been a lot milder than the last. It is a glorious sunny day today with a slight nip in the air but very refreshing. I hope you are all safe and well in dear old New Zealand. I can assure you the boys are always thinking of their dear ones at home. I often think of the day when we arrive back home, what a marvellous day that will be. It will be three years on the Ist of May since we sailed out of Wellington harbour, but we are all keeping the old chins up, and taking everything with a smile. The tin of nugget you sent came in very handy, it is hard to get here. Cheerio, Good luck, and write soon.”
