PERSONAL

Dvr. J. Brewer is the guest of his sister, Mrs. Atho] Masters. Tpr. J. Craig, accompanied by his mother, have gone South. The death occurred at Kaitaia Hospital on Thursday night of a small son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tepani. The funeral took place on Sunday.

THIEVES AT WORK AGAIN

The shop owned by Mr. T. Houston was entered again last week and a quantity of tobacco and chewing gum was taken.

AHIPARA MEMORIAL DOMAIN

Great Progress is being made in the Ahipara Memorial Domain. A number of voluntary workers were busy on Saturday with fencing and the ground is now cleared.

SCHOOL QUEEN CARNIVAL

An enthusiastic evening was spent in the Ahipara Schoolrooms on Monday, August 2, when the Ahipara School Queen Carnival drew to its finale. The winning queen was Bella Marsh the Hill-Beach Queen, by 5120 votes, Maire Walters, Wainui Queen, second with 4907 votes, Helen Franks, Korow—Te Heke Queen, third with 598 votes, and Rosie Covich, Rooma Queen, 478 votes. Later in the evening a dance followed in the Korow Hall in aid of the winning Queen, when raffles were drawn. The Jewel Box, made and donated by Mrs. Barney Snowden, went to Hinumi Harrison, No. 112; Fancy Maori Kit, made and donated by Mrs. Bill Snowden, went to Polly Marsh, No. 22; Another Fancy Maori Kit, made and donated by Mrs. Geo. Marsh went to Albert James, No. 19; A 10/ value Surprise Packet donated by Ralph Berghan, went to Mrs. Hana Tipene, No. 76. The dance carried on till the early hours of the morning. The coronation will be held in the Wainui Hall on Friday, August 13.
