Severe climatic conditions during the spring months, followed by drought conditions during the summer and autumn, in conjunction with a further depletion in the number of herds resulting {com experienced farmers being- called for service in the forces were the main factors contributing to the decrease in the output of the Kaitaia Dairy Co. Ltd., last year, according- to the report to be presented by the chairman of directors (Mr. E. R. Bird) to the 42nd annual meeting- of shareholders to he held on Wednesday, August 11. The output of butter for the season was 2026 tons, a decrease of 315 tons or 13.40 per cent on the previous season, the report continued. Reduced allocations of fertiliser and neglect of farm maintenance, due to war conditions, are factors which now have a definite bearing on the future volume of production. The balance available for distribution as shown by the appropriation account is £37,409, which the directors propose be allocated as follows: Final payment butterfat at 2 l-3d per lb., £36,246; dividend at 3 per cent, per annum on non-qualifying supply shares, £230; taxation and carried forward, £933; total,- £37,409. The average butterfat pay-out over all grades for the season will be as follows:--Advance payment 14.315 d, final payment 2.333 d; a total of 16.648 d, with a dividend of ,012 d making the total 16.660 d. Company Statistics Statistics of the company show that the number of suppliers decreased from 627 to 599. The average butterfat test of cream was 39.48 per cent, against 39.30 per cent. Total charges up to f.o.b. at per lb. butterfat amounted to 2.253 d, compared with 2.266 d the previous season, the overrun being 21.99 per cent, and 21.87 per cent, respectively. The average grade of butter was 93.47, compared with 93. 631. Butter grading and cream grading percentages were as follow, last season’s figures being- given in parentheses: —Butter: Finest, 90.45 per cent. (88.25 per cent.); first, 9.55 (11.42); second, 0.00 (0.33). Cream: Finest, 76.70 (69.61); first, 19.71, (27,56); second, 3.59, (2.83). The two directors retiring by rotation are Messrs W. Metcalfe and H. Parker, who, being eligible, offer themselves for re-election.

DATE OF PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

Saturday, September 25, has been fixed as the date of the forthcoming Parliamentary election. Parliament will be dissolved on August 28, or earlier if the business of the session is completed before that, and writs will be issued on August 30.
