Young: Farmers’ Club

Thursday of last week will long be remembered in the minds of Kaitaia and Broadwood young farmers as one of the most enjoyable Jays ever spent oy any one of them. The day’s events started at 3 in .he afternoon with a football match between the two Clubs. Both teams took the field with 12 men, but this iid not detract from the enjoyment of the game. After a keen struggle Kaitaia ran out winners, 14-6. For Broadwood, J. McKenzie and J. McGrath were in the thick of everything, while in the backs Fergusson and Martin played solid footoall. In the Kaitaia team, H. Hooper and H. Parker (while fresh) played well. In the backs M. Werner, V. Flinn and T. Flinn were an excellent combination which was very hard to stop. Tries for Broadwood were scor--d by Fergusson and Martin ; the scorers for Kaitaia were T. Flinn, V. Flinn, E. Hansen and H. Hooper, two aeing converted by V. Flinn. Mr. D. Hanlon ably controlled the game. After the boys were once more dean and tidy they set off for Mr. Foster’s rooms where a delicious dinler was waiting. When the inner nan had been satisfied, speeches and tories were given by members. Mr. T. Flinn (chairman of the Kaiaia Club) briefly welcomed the visit>rs and hoped that they had enjoyed he day. He also expressed the hope hat this was but a forerunner of nany happy gatherings. Mr. D. Hawkins in replying also hoped that here would be more meetings in the lear future. He thanked the Kaitaia Club for their hospitality. Other peakers were Mr. E. Hansen (chairnan District Committee) and Mr. M. Edwards. The singing of Auld Lang Syne concluded a happy social hour. The next event was the Kaitaia Club’s annual ball, at which the Jroadwood Club were the guests of he evening. The ball was very well >atronised and members of the Club can feel satisfied with the whole reult of their efforts. Excellent music was supplied by the Versatile Orchestra and Mr. H. Parker in the capacity of m.c. kept the dancers moving all night. Monte carlos were won by Mr. Gibson and partner and Mr. A. Perkins and partner. An excellent supper was provided by members of the Club. Early on Friday morning young farmers wended their way wearily but happily home, vowing that it wouldn’t be very long before there would be another day similar to the one just concluded.
