BRAKE SHIELD MATCH Mangonui Go Down to Bay At Okaihau on Saturday, the Bay of Islands junior representatives defeated Mangonui by 18 points to 8 in a Brake Shield match. The match was a great tussle, with many opportunities being lost by both teams. Had Mangonui the services of an accurate goal-kicker, they could have increased their total as the Bay was continually penalised for picking out of the scrum. The Bay, on the other hand, was prevented from making the play more cpen on account of the forwards allowing the ball to stick unnecessarily in the scrum. For the Bay, tries were gained by W. Webster, N. Faithful, S. Mita, C. Heta, and A. Pou, while W. Webster kicked a penalty goal. Keogh was the outstanding forward with A. Pou and Heta also prominent. Faithful, Mita, and Webster were the pick of the backs. Coulter and Busby scored for Mangonui and Phillips converted. Vasey, McPherson, Busby and Coulter were a tireless quartette in the pack while West and Borovich played soundly in the backs. Mr. R. Sommerviile refereed.
