The Coming Election
Mr. J. B. Kennedy speaks at Kaitaia
Mr . J. B. Kennedy, of Mangonui, who has announced his probable intention of contesting the Bay of Islands seat at the forthcoming election held his initial meeting in the A.&P. Hall, Kaitaia, last Friday. Owing to the short notice given there was not a large attendance. Mr. D. Rutledge occupied the chair in the unavoidable absence of the Town Board Chairman. Mr. Kennedy spoke for over an hour and was given an attentive bearing. Though a blackboard was used to give impressiveness and clearness to the main points made, the scheme propounded was so novel that the audience might have been excused if it failed to grasp the full significance of the changes it was proposed should be brought about in the financial and economic structure, and especially the methods by which the objects in view were to be accomplished. It was apparent that the speaker had a scheme the originality of which no one could question, and that be had given the scheme a great deal of thought and believed that it provided a solution of the world’s most difficult problems today. The speaker had a good platform manner and delivery that impressed his hearers who after questions had been answered accorded Mr. Kennedy a hearty vote of thanks for his address.
